Tongues of Fire - Standing Firm

Only just the other day I thought about the first time I heard music, back
when a group called the Beatles was around. The rhythms, riffs, melodies
and beats seemed to massage my soul. So at the encouragement of my
Mother, I played clarinet, flute and trumpet at different stages of my
school years. I could remember the melody of the songs but what came
out the clearest were the rhythms and words. My favorite groups were
Rush, Triumph, Cream and David Bowie, just to name a few.

At age 28, when my daughter Vanessa was just 5 years old, I decided
that the guitar was my true instrument of choice. I learned so many songs
that were written by other artists, but my real joy was in creating new
songs with the chords I was learning. At age 30, when I became a
Christian, my desires turned to songs of worship and I was given the
opportunity to play on a Worship Team at Praise Chapel
in Mission Hills, California.

It was quite a challenge to play under the instruction of a G.I.T. graduate
named Ken Suder. He taught me about chords that I didn't even know
existed and helped me to feel the rhythms of Bossa Nova, Regee and
Contemporary Rock. What a Joy. I played with other great artists such as
my Brother, Eric Garcia who plays drums on
Calling of Samuel.

My choice of artists changed and I began to enjoy
the songwriting of DC Talk, Jars ofClay, Delirious and Creed. I started
writing the songs on this CD just a year or two later, and continued
refining them through my late 30's. Dang, that's a long time! Anyways,
when I married my wife Jackie, at age 39, I shared my dream with her
and she helped me to meet my goal of producing this CD
of 9 entirely original songs.

If it wasn't for this God-given desire, the help of my friends
encouragement and the assistance of the artists and producer involved;
this music would still be sitting on a shelf gathering dust. So I hope this
music helps you to shake the dust off of your dreams and
put your faith into action.
